Ridge (mountain and vertical-zonation biomes — biomes stacked by elevation) × Flux (climate-biome mapping — where biomes shift as temperature and moisture change)
Climbing one tall mountain takes you from forest to tundra, the same sequence as traveling from the equator to the poles. How do Ridge and Flux connect?
Ridge then says: “The biome zones on a mountain and across latitudes are caused by entirely unrelated factors.” — is that right?
Climb a mountain or cross the map — climate draws the same zones.
Canopy (forest biomes — temperate, tropical, and taiga, where rain is abundant) × Dune (desert biomes — hot, cold, and semi-arid, where rain is scarce)
A rainforest and a desert can sit at the same latitude and temperature yet look nothing alike. How do Canopy and Dune explain that?
Canopy then says: “Forests and deserts have nothing in common and are set by completely separate factors.” — is that right?
Plenty of rain makes a forest; little makes a desert — one axis, two ends.
