BugsCamp
Early Life Science Naturalism for Ages 5-8 — bug + leaf + weather identification + observation journaling. Beetle (ladybug-naturalist mascot) guides backyard discovery.
Meet your mentor
Every Spark & Anvil app has a friendly mentor character that demonstrates, praises, and patiently scaffolds learning. On-device AI personalizes the mentor's responses to your kid's progress — never connecting to a server, never collecting data.
#B4D88C Distributed-narrative cast
Meet the cast
BugsCamp's 3-character supporting cast (Wave 29 — Younger Cluster Variant inaugural; ages 5-8) embodies early-naturalism observation primitives as concrete-physical garden-friends — surface-walking observation (Crawl), hidden-discovery observation (Wiggle), partial-view observation (Peek). Following the MotifLab Wave 7 hero-as-protagonist pattern adapted for ages 5-8, Beetle (ladybug-naturalist mascot + AI nature coach) remains the protagonist + in-frame star; cast members are FRIENDS Beetle visits in different garden corners. Cast fades by kit 7 so kit 8 (reflection) is the kid's own observation journal. Catchphrases ≤6 words repeated identically each appearance (`Look slow. See more.` / `Lift a leaf. Surprise!` / `I see a wing. What is it?`) — kid memorizes catchphrase before underlying skill. CRITICAL gates: vocabulary appropriate for ages 5-8 (no observation / specimen / habitat jargon); gentle correction never wrong-as-failure (every wrong-tap is co-exploration invitation); Parent Companion mode with grown-up tips per kit; hero-mascot Beetle stays in-frame ≥50% of every cast scene. No trauma-informed depth needed at this age (scope explicitly gentle — no death / predation / extinction at this age). Visual repetition IS the methodology — same recurring posture + color + catchphrase = recognition.
Crawl
Surface-walking observation — soft mint-green snail-kid with cream shell-swirl + tiny lantern + magnifying-bead; crawls slowly across screens; trail of footprint-dots
Wiggle
Hidden-discovery observation — plump glossy-russet earthworm-tween in soft-yellow safety vest; head + tail-tip visible above soil-line; ? sparkles around discoveries
Peek
Partial-view observation — soft cream-and-warm-brown sparrow-tween in tiny moss-green hood; always half-hidden behind chunky leaf or flower; one round eye + one wing-tip visible
